HOW THE HVAC INDUSTRY WORKS

BECOMING A HVAC CONTRACTOR

1. Complete formal training at an accredited institution to learn the fundamentals and best practices of HVAC technology. We recommend the following institutions:
   • Texas State Technical College
   • Lone Star College
   • And various community colleges across the Midwest
2. Acquire a personal EPA license, each technician is legally required to obtain a license to handle refrigerants while working on HVAC systems. At Air Management Supply, we regularly hold EPA Exam and Review sessions at our various locations, Check Air Management’s training schedule for future classes.
3. Obtain work experience! The HVAC industry is in high demand so many aspiring technicians can find work quickly and start gaining experience. Hands on work well help you apply what you’ve learned from an accredited institution.
4. (Optional) If you are wanting to venture forth into entrepreneurship, obtain a TACL license to operate a business of your own! In Texas, each independent contractor/business must have at least one valid license for the business to operate under.
   • As a TACL license holder, you are required to further your career through continued education, Check Air Management’s training schedule for future classes.
